Vintage gems, extreme value for money.

Had a Hafler DH 110 preamplifier many moons ago which I bought second hand. Best phonostage I heard at the time: dug out detail and bass notes that made for great vinyl listening - seemed to have synergy with my Garrot Bros P77 mounted on Linn LP12, Basik Plus arm. Coupled it with Hitachi HMA...

    Seattle

Colleague had a PhD student who wrote her whole thesis at a Mugg and Bean shop: bought one muffin and had the bottomless coffee option. Spent days there with a full supply of coffee for the price of one cup

Is a power conditioner worth it?

My experience with power conditioners similar to above. I use one from a well known manufacturer together with one of its "fancy cables". Does not do well with amplifiers but does wonders for TV picture. I connect DSTV decoder, CD player, Turntables, DAC, computer, 3TB hard drive via it as a...

    Friends creating problems.

Enjoyable prose indeed. I am still wondering what is true and what is creative metaphoric prose? Very creative. so did the instructions solve the problem with the A80

    Joke of the day?

SAPO took this stance to delivering parcels from / to Jo Burg to other parts of the country years ago. I hope this decision was not taken in anger for some obscure reason. The Dac I am still waiting on since 2019 is a cheap harmless device that will probably do more damage to my sound system...

    Cheap Audiophile System

I tend to agree with Ingvar that Vintage gear will probably give you much better value than the newer cheapie stuff in general.

    Let's be honest here ...

Ingvar That FM Acoustic amplifier 800A is going to cost a South African R195 000. Is it that good?

The Yamaha turntables are really good. That looks like a PX2. What cartridge are you suing on it?

    The Cape Town Hi-Fi Club

Hi All, I agree that yesterday was a really enjoyable day in terms of our hobby and the social interaction. I feel we need t provide some clarification on a matter related to equipment used. While the whole exercise was not a Holo vs Dennifripps Ares comparison it is important to highlight a...

    Holo Audio Dac Demos

The city has changed a bit since you last took that pic. Looks like a postcard from the 1980's before the V&A waterfront and many other things. Looking forward to the demos though. Will make sure I reserve a seat

    Radio session with Vintage kit

Maybe should have called it "older kit" not vintage - right? Was just so impressed with analogue radio as a medium hence the share. The stuff we grew up with before TV and the now dominant "social media". Fine Music Radio still have presenters who know music and artists and not the babble mouth...

    Radio session with Vintage kit

Listening to a local radio station (Cape Town) FMR Saturday Scene morning Jazzy session and really surprised by the sound quality of the kit combo. All equipment bought second hand over a period of time, total cost < R1500. 00 and make up kitchen dining room system: detail, frequency balance...

    One Faded Amplifier Knob

Skin oil is probably what is keeping the right one looking good... ;D ;D The other one must have been treated with skin lightner from they used to sell in the 70's

    The legendary Pathos TT

For a moment I was looking for a Pathos turntable (TT). Lovely looking amp. I only heard one example a few years ago and I must say they sound as good as they look.

    Vintage Sanyo Hi Fi

Sorry forgot to mention: the tuner wire is called a T wire sometimes should be available at electronics shops like Yebo and others and maybe even at Cash Crus. The tuner section of these systems like most stereo tuners of the era are often very good and that T wire does the job.
