Why do we never get Sony's high end home theatre solutions

Sony, like Panasonic, are priced higher than the Korean and Chinese competition. In the first world they still land in mass market territory, but not in SA, not a viable market for them I would imagine.

Onkyo rz70 international local suppliers scamming us?

How many of those positive reviews are anything but subjective? People can make up their own minds, I personally would not be comfortable purchasing an Onkyo having read those reviews. They don't come cheap ;)

Onkyo rz70 international local suppliers scamming us?

If you put stock in what EISA have to say. Also, from what I understand of the OP’s post, the value proposition doesn’t translate to SA.

Good they fixed the power bug, but still doesn’t fill me with confidence.

Onkyo rz70 international local suppliers scamming us?

ASR doesn't have a review of the RZ70, but they do have one of the RZ50 - and it doesn't inspire confidence: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/onkyo-tx-rz50-review-home-theater-avr.30842/

    Streaming & discovery

I don't subscribe to music streaming services. I prefer a more active approach to music discovery and when I find an album that interests me, I buy it, preferably on Bandcamp. Music for me is just better that way, I don't need or want an algorithm subtly leading me by the nose.

Onkyo rz70 international local suppliers scamming us?

If I were you I would rather buy a local Denon for the same price you can bring in the Onkyo, regardless of what the spec sheet says. Exhibit A, this review that just dropped yesterday: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/onkyo-tx-nr7100-avr-review.56300/

Help me improve my bass trap in a power corner

The measurements from your app don't add up, I don't think it can be used to make any valid judgements on the situation. As for a 40cm triangular corner trap vs a 40cm wall panel, I would go with the wall panel :) - a 40cm wedge is not going to do much of anything. Thick panels behind the...

Help me improve my bass trap in a power corner

Using cushions and plushies is not going to work and there isn't the space there for a corner bass trap. Could try thick absorption panels behind the speaker, but whether panel or corner trap, it's likely not going to be that effective in that range anyway. Have you taken any measurements to...

Onkyo rz70 international local suppliers scamming us?

Is there any particular reason you want to buy an Onkyo? They underperform in relation to the competition.

Advice needed - processor/ receiver for my 4K and Atmos upgrade

Without preamp mode, the signal is passable up to about 1.4 Vrms before clipping, with preamp mode engaged you get a cleaner signal that, typically, peaks at a little over 2 Vrms and remains acceptable up to 4Vrms. Not new, no, but maybe second hand? I believe it's from the X600H and up for...

Advice needed - processor/ receiver for my 4K and Atmos upgrade

Having preouts is not the same as having a preamp mode. The DAC performance of conventional AVRs are compromised due to having their internal amps in the signal path. Newer Denon and Marantz models allow you to disconnect the internal amps and run the AVR in a minimum power state.

Advice needed - processor/ receiver for my 4K and Atmos upgrade

Newer models are able to disconnect the amp modules from the signal path, where previously they would clip the signal. Current high-end models go further with a discreet DAC board. It has the same problem as the other older models. If you want to use it as a processor, you should try to get...

Advice needed - processor/ receiver for my 4K and Atmos upgrade

As a processor, this model should be avoided: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/denon-avr-x3500h-avr-review.10053/ Look to preamp mode equipped X600H and up: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/denon-avr-x3600h-av-receiver-review.12676/

Advice needed - processor/ receiver for my 4K and Atmos upgrade

Your best bet would be to go for a Marantz or Denon AVR/C in preamp mode. Given your budget, you're probably going to have to look at the second hand market, or maybe get lucky with an older model on discount. An older model is what you want, something prior to the AKM factory fire. So an...

New House Build - Listening Room Size & Tips

You’d need the kind of blinds that have a guide channels along the window frames, otherwise light leak might reflect off the TV and annoy.

    Boomy bass

Another option is to put the bungs in an put the speaker ls right up against the wall and see how that sounds. Edit: From you pic, proximity to the side wall is also a problem - makes it even worse if the distance to the back and side walls are similar. Absorption definitely needed.

    Boomy bass

It’s caused by the proximity to the wall. You’d have to bring those speakers at least 2m from the back wall to avoid that reinforcement - or put 10-15cm thick quality absorption panels behind the speakers and place them as close to the wall as possible without obstructing the ports (edit: EQ is...
