    Vintage Sanyo Hi Fi

These systems can sound very good as second systems or patio / braai area music systems. They were generally well built. What is wrong with the speakers: re-cone is possible sometimes otherwise just get something at Cash Converters. Sometimes just working the volume knob while system is off...

Daan Jacobs Reference 4 Speakers Facebook Page.

Thanks for setting this up. I will post pics of my Anihilator tomorrow. The Classic series 3 I woned was one of the best preamps I ever had, the phonostage was particularly good. Mine was stolen and another is on my bucket list as a nice to have at this stage.

    Classic FM is no more

Tuners might become sought after like turntables and typewriters soon

    Classic FM is no more

Hang on to your tuners. Classic components as part of sound systems for ages. Nostalgic for me as I am part of the Radio generation growing up with a radiogram as the main form of home entertainment - pre TV.  FM radio sounds good in stereo and I enjoy the music very much. When listening to...

    A cheaper form of Soundproofing

    Classic FM is no more

I certainly hope Fine Music Radio its erstwhile partner station in Cape Town holds out. Its the only station worth listening to when commuting or late night radio. Just renewed my membership

    Guillaume Lemaire

Sad news for all of us in this "hobby" space and for his family in particular - RIP. Just took delivery of a Rel high input cable he made up which I bought from for another member. He always had an input on and sometimes a "solution" to many members dilemmas Will be sorely missed on this forum

The Stereo Music Show 18 -20 June Carnival City Conference Centre Rio Rooms

Some vary good points elegently presented, thank you. High quality forum for sure. I see apredator in my future (bucket list) so hope it does not change too much. As for the statement "The main takeaway is people are talking about VALVE AUDIO"  is important but let it not become the politician...

    Afternoons @ The Lunch Box

Thanks for all the good stories. Part of SA and other hi fi folklore. really interesting That pic of the Linn factory tour historical: I recognised Kobus Bender who ran  a shop called J Bender and son Photographer (fotograaf) in Robertson I think. I attended a food and wine expo in Robertson...

    Subwoofer recommendatuins

How come nobody recommends Rel subs? Some of the best subwoofers I have heard were made by this company. The hi level connection provided makes connection to older amps which do not have subwoofer out.

As a sound enthusiast living in an apartment complex, how does one cope?

Bose "lifestyle" stuff made for places like OP described. Not sure they still in SA, closed Cape Town store. If there is a store near you go and have a look and listen. At the demo I attended the sound was big and airy in a small space and also sounded effortless. It was a "satellite" system...

Audio dealers. Do we even need them?

From  a source (cannot vouch for the accuracy) though: up to 60% of middle and upper middle class citizens of Gauteng have houses in Cape Town intended for retirement relocation. So we might have a reverse 'Groot Trek' sometime in the future. Wonder if it is going to make it onto the History...

    Silicone Spray

The shop is called quick cash pawnbrokers but the only goods in the shop when I popped in where second hand hi fi equipment. They are able to do demos and have things connected up like the hi fi shops in the golden era of stereo. No listening rooms at this stage though. Filled to the brim all...

That ONE component you will never part with

Agree - no bass problem. Accurate and tuneful bass. As indicated placement and amplification important, but like all other audio equipment sound is better if whole chain is good.
