A thought. Sand or leadshot is heavy. Allegedly weight "stores" energy. Has anyone ever considered a mix of sand or leadshot with polystyrene balls? ( the kind used for bean bags). There should be a vibrational impedance mismatch between the 2, and therefore dissipate much of the stored energy.
