No more silver discs - how to replace a CD player?

Home PC is a 2009 Mac mini. I don't really want to rip the CD collection to that. I know they make okay media streamers. Work PC (laptop) belongs to my employer and will not be used for private content. So ripping would require an investment in IT hardware. I have no interest in that. Just...

No more silver discs - how to replace a CD player?

Thanks guys, this has been a great help. I really appreciate the advice. I also found an older post from Drifter (Hein), talking about a similar topic in May last year. I'm taking my EmmLabs to the grave with me.  It's the old demo unit originally auditioned by the late Mr. Deon...

No more silver discs - how to replace a CD player?

Current setup: Stereo: EmmLabs CDSA - Ayre Pre/Power - Vivid Audio V1.5 [CDSA to eventually be replaced  :sd:] Surround: Yamaha RX880 AVR feeding Ayre Pre (Processor Pass-through), powering surrounds and Atmos in-ceilings only. Centre Vivid Audio is powered by Cyrus X-Power +PSX (thanks Sean...

No more silver discs - how to replace a CD player?

So I am from the age of shine discs, but understand time and tech moves on rapidly. What do I need to add to my system to eventually replace an excellent CD Player (EmmLabs)? Tidal or Deezer HiFi on iPhone streaming through Yamaha AVR is not doing the trick. Will this get any better if I add a...

Help a newbie match speakers & amp

Ohhhh, some journey ahead for you. No destination, just a fantastic journey. My favourite anagram: "if I had a hifi" Do you or do you want to have kids?

Debunked! MQA is bad, and misleading you!

Atmos overhead speakers needed for the required effect.  :winkwink:

Best place to sell 2nd hand high end audio gear.

I'm not a reseller or trader, but have been selling loads of items on Bikehub and FB Marketplace. Emptying out the house. If I need cash, something old and unused / unwanted gets sold. No more ATM visits. Good quality photos helps you sell. Please don't include your toes in the shot from above...

Best place to sell 2nd hand high end audio gear.

Agree 100, but my absolute #1 dislike is the "needs no introduction" start to the advert. When I read that I actually try looking away and mouse scrolling fast enough to not to see the rest of the ad.

    Are tweeters important?

Memory is fading, but was that not the Legato Link? Pioneer (perhaps?) made a CD player that claimed to work some magic up to 40kHz.

What to do with all the old discs?

How does one get registered as one of their "Recycling Locations"?

    %0 Post Rule on Classifieds

I owe the good man from Croak a massive apology for that inaccurate statement I made. I also bought some sublime cabling from Guillaume and forgot to tally that in my trade count.  :groovy: So, I have made two purchases from members here. One remains an ongoing disappointment.

    %0 Post Rule on Classifieds

[Post 27...]  :winkwink: Ironically I have bought and sold several items FB marketplace, zero incidents of dishonesty. Only bought 1 item from a member here and I am still waiting to receive all that was advertised (accessories), that I paid for upfront...

    %0 Post Rule on Classifieds

I've been a member since 2011. Sold items before the rule was implemented. Moved away from hifi for a few years, now I am back. Also not too much chatter from my side. Due to the rule I had to sell my Emotiva amps and processor on FB for half of what they are being resold on this forum...

    Atmos in-ceiling speakers

Thanks all for your input. Responses are much appreciated. I will get working on the in-ceiling addition.

    Atmos in-ceiling speakers

I'm adding Atmos to my home cinema experience, in a small lounge. Not sure how I am getting into the ceiling crawlspace, or what I might find there.. Surrounds are old Monitor Audio Radius, so I am guessing MA in-ceiling speakers should be a good choice. Any advice or Do's or Don't or speakers...

Adding AV Receiver to Stereo system

Thanks JVR I'm not the biggest fan of the black AVR boxes. Googling them, I notice the cheaper ones don't offer pre-out.  :vsad: Maybe a blessing for my Centre. Size obviously matters... take the photo from the bottom up. Marantz NR1510 might be a winner, just on the wrong side of R12k. Time...

Adding AV Receiver to Stereo system

So I am trying to add the TV/Apple TV/BluRay back to my recently upgraded CD stereo system. Wife and myself likes to watch one or two episodes of something funny every now and then. [LF] 3-ch power amp in the Wanted section as I have an old Emotiva UMC1 processor and XPA3 power amp... but the...

MUSICAL FIDELITY A3 OR YAMAHA CD-S1000

I still have the machine, all boxed and wrapped. It's actually in the way on the dining room table (not carrying it upstairs again, it's big an heavy). Sure you don't want to borrow it for a week or two. Offer still stands. For the record, I grew up on MF stuff, thought they were amazing...

    Explainantions Required

Being a little "old school" (sure I'll be flamed for saying that), can this thing seriously match a good SACD player? A little sceptical perhaps.
