KEF Blade Ref in Cradlestone Mall. Bring your parking money too.

Jis, they are butt ugly too.  For that money I would rather buy a set of Sonus Faber Amati Futuras or Dali Epicon 8s.

Personal audition of SDA Acoustics ATC Monitors

^^^^  :vsad: I love the sound of studio monitors, especially if the have deep base.  I guess I will have to go second best.  Stu, I will probably contact you next year for my speaker project.  Have not made a choice yet for the project.  Maybe have to save some money for those ScanSpeak...

Value of a Linn Sondek LP - 12

+1.  Not more than that.  That there was the most basic setup from around 1980 I believe.

Vintage High-End Vs Latest Budget Components

I for sure won't pass over an old Leak, Audio Research or such if I find one for a bargain.  My LP12 (1982) is a unit that stood in someone's garage for a long time, restored by me.  Just use your head when buying.  My dad has an old Beogram with a blown power transistor, and I can't find a...

Vintage High-End Vs Latest Budget Components

One for sure can't expect a 40 year old electrolytic capacitor to be on spec anymore compared to when it was manufactured, so for sure any piece of audio equipment using that old capacitor will not sound the same it did 40 years ago.  Now keep in mind a normal unit will have lots and lots of...

Vintage High-End Vs Latest Budget Components

Older speakers with a foam suspension can be problematic, so be careful with those.  It can usually be repaired by a someone with intimate knowledge.  Older transistor amps is also a problem if the transistors pop since most of them are not made anymore, and finding replacements can be...

Thinking of a Integrated Dual F5 amp

Not much different, just more voltage, more current, so some parts need higher wattage spec, and cascading the JFETs if the rail voltage goes over 32V.  And more power transistors obviously.  Bigger PSU also.  How big will depend on the size of your wallet and your sense of adventure.

    Oscars bawling

The current firearms law is very clear on this issue.  If you fire at any intruder in your home, and said intruder was not armed,  or even if armed, the intruder did not act in a way to endanger your life, you will be found guilty of murder.  In this case, the 'alleged' intruder was behind a...

Thinking of a Integrated Dual F5 amp

I wouldn't recommend it.  Why a bridged F5?  If because 25W is not enough, why not a F5T?  Also, building an integrated you are limiting yourself from trying other pre-amp options.

    Oscars bawling

Unfortunately I foresee this verdict many moons ago.  There was just not enough hard evidence.  We all knew what happened.  Any reasonable person could see the circumstantial evidence and put 2 and 2 together, but the courts don't work that way. One jealous, arrogant and self centered boyfriend...

I am in the mood for another epic speaker build

http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-bpa-38g-hd-binding-post-pair-gold--091-1245 Best of the bunch I could find.  I love those used my Audio Note Kondo.  But I can't find a clone anywhere.

    NAD vs Rotel Amps

My first system was my dad's Lenco L75 with AT110E plus a NAD 3020i driving a set of Boston Acoustics A60 speakers.  They worked so well together.  I sold the NAD 3020i and A60s for quite a bit more than I paid for them 2 years later.

    Marantz PM-30 Amp

I have adjusted them to halfway as the manual states to begin the biasing procedure.  I will bias it to spec once the new transistor is in.  It is still early to say what else has been stressed.

    Marantz PM-30 Amp

Another thing I picked up today when cleaning off the dust from the PC boards today: it seemed that some components where getting quite hot from being driven too hard.  So I check the biasing pots, and they were adjusted at their max.  I remembered checking the voltages over the emitter resistor...

Do You Need to Love Music to Be a True Audiophile?

Then I am no audiophile, since I don't like Jazz at all.

PassLabs Aleph x Mono Monster Build

It doesn't work that way.  You cannot just use any Class AB design and bias it into Class A.  There are a lot of other things to consider.  Also, a fair bit of commercial amplifiers will be Class D, and that will definitely not be able to be biased into Class A.  What I can suggest is to buy the...

PassLabs Aleph x Mono Monster Build

Well now that is a loaded gun lying around.  To be honest, I don't think there should be a difference, although the marketing departments of consumer audio companies will tell you a different story.  Home users are so much more easy to BS, whereas the buyers for professional audio have sound...

PassLabs Aleph x Mono Monster Build

Are you referring to an amp used in professional audio setups compared to normal home hi-fi?  If so, lots. Professional audio environments are much more brutal.  Firstly, these things are transported a lot, so they must be constructed in a very robust manner.  They might be driven real hard for...
