Denon AVR & Sony BR Player: No Changes but Suddenly No Sound from Blu-Ray Player

My initial thought was much the same as yours: the issue lies with the 'DVD/Blu-Ray' HDMI port on the AVR, to which the BR player was connected. That's the reason I swapped the BR player from that port to the 'Game' port, through which the PS4 had been delivering sound about an hour earlier. But...

Denon AVR & Sony BR Player: No Changes but Suddenly No Sound from Blu-Ray Player

    1. Yes, I will give that a try. I don't think the BR player is the issue, though, based on the fact that when connected directly to the TV, it outputs both video and audio. I confirmed that again this morning. 2. Yes, factory reset done on both the AVR and the BR player. Firmware on both is...

Denon AVR & Sony BR Player: No Changes but Suddenly No Sound from Blu-Ray Player

Occasionally, yes. I also tried powering off all the devices completely (unplugging from the wall) but still no sound when I restarted the lot. There's a surge protector (an Ellies multiplug with a warranty) between the wall plug and all the devices.

Denon AVR & Sony BR Player: No Changes but Suddenly No Sound from Blu-Ray Player

It's the most bizarre thing... Setup is as follows: AVR: Denon AVR-X1200W; Blu-Ray Player - Sony BDP-S490; and TV: LG OLED connected to the AVR via ARC Last night, I wanted to play a Blu-Ray disc using the BR player. Loaded up the disc and plenty of video but no sound. The BR player is...

    Samsung Q80 65 vs LG OLED B9 65

You won't be sorry! The picture amazes me every time I turn the TV on

    Grundig is back...

My Dad ought to comment on this thread... KOD, look here! I grew up with Grundig kit scattered around the house. From 1950s-era radios to 1990s-era 95cm CRT TVs, my old man repaired innumerable Grundig items at his home workshop. My first TV was a little Grundig unit mounted on the wall in my...

What is the first song you would listen to testing a new setup?

Dear Prudence - The Beatles Woke Up This Morning (Chosen One Mix) - Alabama 3 (also known as the theme to The Sopranos) Lots of highs and lows in both tracks and there's a little mistake in Dear Prudence that can only be heard if you're paying attention and if the system is decent enough to...

    PS5 Design Reveal

I'm big into sim racing, so much so that I have a proper steering wheel and pedals (the Logitech G29) mounted to a racing rig (basically just an actual car seat mounted to some chipboard on a pine frame. The wheel and pedals cost me in the region of R5k a year or two back. I shall be highly...

Help needed identifying an unknown satellite decoder

Deon, did this ever make it into the Freebies section? I couldn't find it there. If not, I'd like it, please. I'm setting up an RF system for CCTV around my place.

TV - Some help from TV experts - Please.

To add, if the insurer only wants to pay out what the TV was worth at the time of the loss, do some digging on second-hand sales sites (even if overseas) to see what other examples of the TV were being sold for. EDIT: I've very clearly failed to read Mark's last post  Instead of...

TV - Some help from TV experts - Please.

Mark, I'm no TV expert but this question piqued my interest. What was the damaged TV insured for? Retail value or replacement value? If retail value, tell First for Women to pay out the retail value and you can then decide what you want to spend your money on. The insurer will find any possible...

    Please advise on TV matters

Suggest you lodge the claim now (to make sure you're within the 24-month timeframe) and wait for them to ask you for proof. Murphy's a bugger and the issue might not occur long enough or at all for you to record it during the next two months.

Samsung Q60R - worth the R11k Makro wants?

Yes! My 48-inch Samsung Series 6 LED has a wand remote - I thought it was the dog's bollocks when I first used it. Then they dropped it... It's likely to have been something a 'premium feature' like a wand remote is reserved for the premium sets, so likely the Q70 upwards. Similar to a Porsche...

    Samsung Q80 65 vs LG OLED B9 65

The C9 is the ideal middle-ground, according to what I've read, although there isn't much in it between it and the C9. The latter has superior picture processing, if I recall correctly, because it has a newer generation processor.

Good buy! I have the 55C9 and a pig in muck couldn't be happier than I am.

Samsung Q60R - worth the R11k Makro wants?

The girlfriend is looking at the boggo-spec QLED from Samsung: the 55-inch Q60R. I've done some reading and the general consensus is 'okay' but not marvellous - only the Q70R and up are worthy of glowing praise, apparently. R11k from Makro at the moment...

Buying from guys on the forum

I've bought a number of items through the forum, the latest acquisition being from Judy and Mark at RemedyTec. My buys have always been flawless and the sellers always personable and fair. More importantly, the forum has been a wonderful place for me to learn about AV, which I've tried to do...

How?s your hearing? Does it affect your listening sessions?

Don't delay that return - you'll regret it if you do.

How?s your hearing? Does it affect your listening sessions?

They cost me R38k back in 2017. My medical aid covered almost all of it on the basis that my hearing loss is classified as a physical disability. I even claim tax back every year for the battery costs, servicing costs, travelling to have them serviced, etc.

How?s your hearing? Does it affect your listening sessions?

Gentlemen, I cannot stress just how important it is to get your hearing tested and aided if needs be. I have nerve damage from when I was a real laaitie (German measles at eighteen months old + high temperature + no myelin sheath = fun!) and it wasn't diagnosed until my first year in primary...
