Ford's had them as standard in their higher spec cars in the 90s. My dads Sapphire 3.0 IRS had one, the Falcons, TX5s etc also had them and back then they were rather good.
BMW had them as standard in the e36 before they changed to the better looking (worse sounding) headunits that did match the dash "look" better and BMW carried the Phillips units over to and was plagued with the terrible Philips units (unless you paid extra for Harman kardon) up until the e46 ceased production in 2004/5.
