    Really uncertain about glass, but know that the preferred "less resonant" medium being used by restorers/upgraders of these is milled acrylic.     I am trying to find AR "The Turntable" or interchangeable upper platter. Does anyone know of or can point me to anyone who may have AR turntable bits or even an old AR turntable that is scrap that I could get hold of? OR one better, does anyone know of a source locally for the Acrylic platters...

    Advice for a newbie

    Solid Amp (have the same but paired with Mission 753's and love it) the older Rotel CD players pair very well with the 981/972 Combo if you can get in good condition. Cannot remember the model I have now being  at work, will check later but I picked it up for less than 1K in very good condition...
