    Dont fall for this scam!

As mentioned before this isn't the only industry being held hostage. Some local agents in other industries have even gone as far as using geoblocking on foreign web sights to prevent sales of their products to the SA market. By doing so they hope they will force consumers to pay local inflated...

Subwoofer not working but been repaired

You probably have an issue with the amplifier module. I had a similar problem on another brand. One could open up and measure the main FET's see if they are suspect, but will need a multimeter etc

Audiolab 8200CD no power - please help

Depending on your knowledge, skill level and avaialibilty of tools you will need to open it up and investigate, there might be an internal fuse on the unit. The power supply board might be separate to the main board so one could measure there to see if there is a DC output.

How does a generator power output work?

If you are concerned about genertator noise then you should perhaps consider using a enclosure to assit with sound attenuation. Looks like there are quite a few options avaialble. For the exahust you could look at intalling a baffle.

Smart metes - how bad for standby systems?

From what I can see the system is said to work as follows: “An hour before the start of load-shedding, the system will prompt customers to reduce their consumption to 10 Amps by sending a message to their CIU and cellphone,” it said. “The system will provide the customer with four...

    Shipping from USA to SA

I doubt they actually monitor this. If using a 3rd party service like aramex as they are clearing on your behalf. I have brought in more than a dozen items every year for some time now and never been asked to provide a code.

110v to 12v power transformer - impossible to order

Or come to think of it. One could alo just measure the ohmic value of the heater element, then add a power resistor of same value in series with that to functio.n at 220V. So if heater is 11ohms at 110V thats 10A. Then for 220V add 11ohm's power R + 11 ohm's heater element = 22 ohm's. So for...

110v to 12v power transformer - impossible to order

Does the heating element have any name plate data information ? one could introduce a resistor in series with the heater element this will limit current flow at the higher voltage.

    Active vs Passive Subwoofer setup

So some time ago my Monitor Audio BXW-10 Active Subwoofer's native amplifier module packed up. It was not repairable. After doing some research it look like this particular Subwoofer used a class D amplifier. I decided to try run the subwoofer off a crown XLS1500 power amplifier ( Class D ) as...

Today, Eskom dropped our voltage to 125V

For a sustained 400V over voltage I doubt the standard surge arrestsor will work. I have one in my DB board rated 275V and it never operated. I think they are more designed for short fast voltage spikes. However a simple MOV would most likely do the job else a over voltage drop out relay. In...

Today, Eskom dropped our voltage to 125V

For under voltage conditions electronics should survive, its normally the motors or inductive loads that take a knock. However for over voltages you might have more things that fail. A month a two ago a neutral was stolen off our local Munic Transformer. Mains voltage was sitting at 400V...
