    choosing speakers

I myself went through the process of auditioning speakers in different shops. I honestly heard the same speakers in 2 different shops - one place sounded amazing. The other place sounded mediocre. So personally, I would really recommend you try audition in the same room (with the same AV...

    AVA show date

Likewise - I went last year. Bought a washing machine, lol  and had a long chat with the importers of Black Diamond screens. Would love to know when it is happening...

What display panel do you use

I got plasma, and I find the quality (especially on SD signals) to be superior to LCD. The blacks and colours are definitely better. However, I do have to be careful which lights to put on, as is the case with plasma - it has bad reflection :(

    Which HTPC?

Another option is to build your own. I have found that with a Corsair CX430 power supply (or Antec VP450), the system remains very quite and you can then customize your HTPC as you wish.

    polk and MA

You can try www.remedytec.co.za in Boksburg. They do Monitor Audio and Mission speakers. I personally bought my system from Vaughan at smartlifestyle. He gives great advice. His number is 084 819 5103

Which wired ADSL modem and where to buy ??

Key thing to keep in mind - look out for what CHIPSET the modem uses. For the most stable connection, look for a BROADCOM based chipset (D-link, certain TP-Links, Tenda and Netgear). I personally use a Tenda. It's really simple, but it's a solid modem. Ive heard the D-link 2500U is also a good...

Why are Media Players so junk? Just get XMBC and save your sanity...

I also use XBMC and I love it! I think the reason people use media players is that they are just straight forward and work out the box. I know with my XBMC box, it always needs some maintenance here and there. Also, I still haven't been able to find a remote that works as well as a media player...

So my import has bitten me in the bum...

Ya, try contact the Optoma agents locally. They might be able to help, no? I once had an issue with a Canon printer from the States, and it was repaired locally under warranty :)

DTS vs Dolby Digital centre volume

I did think that it was they way it was ripped, but it happens on too many DTS movies for it to just be a ripping issue :(

DTS vs Dolby Digital centre volume

Hi, I've got the Polk Rti-A speaker series - RTi-A5 fronts, Csi-A6 centre, Rti-A1 rears. I've always noticed that I needed to yank up my centre channel around 4db (at least), to be able to hear the dialogue clearly. (This is AFTER doing a level calibration). So I thought that my room probably...

    Building a HTPC

Ja, it is fantastic. Just many people would find it hard to get it installed and working correctly. I followed the following guide (with a few tweaks) and it really helped me get MADVR working the way it should: http://www.homecinema-hd.com/intro_en.html MADVR also only works with a limited...

    Building a HTPC

Hi Guys, I've put XBMC on my HTPC and I absolutely love it. Interface is cool, downloading movie summaries are fantastic and I really like the ability to stream trailers directly from youtube for my whole movie collection. I use MadVR to get the best video processing possible. To do this, I've...

    Building a HTPC

Well, I recently put together 2 HTPCs. The first was a celeron E3400 with a radeon HD5450 graphics card. This works fully with 1080p videoand will do bitsreaming just fine. Those would be your cheapest option. I then heard about mavr. You can do a Google search for it - basically it is an...

Looking to get a projector screen

Hi, I looking to buy a projector screen. I will be using it to watch HD movies at night time. Size needs to be 100-120 inches. The HT room is shared with the lounge, so I have light walls, light ceiling and light carpets. Projector is the EH-TW5500 1080p LCD high contrast projector. Screen...

    Anyone here have a Mede8tor MED500X?

Thanks a mil for trying it out - The thing is the problem is not just limited to that file (for me at least). When I change picture frame rate to 24P, the sound sometimes wont work at all for some files. Other m2ts files stop playing half way into the file and sounds drops the rest of the...
