12V load shed stereo tube amplifier

I guess it is time to move tube amplifiers off the grid. Is it possible? Is quality of audio affected by battery operation? Can it be done without electrocuting oneself?

Design issues to be addressed:

• 12 DC operation or 24V DC?
• high efficiency - maximum music while drawing minimum current over all
• safety - where does the earth connection go?
• cost effective or audiophile quality
• portability
• stereo or mono operation
