8Ohm or 6Ohm

Quick question. Some AVR's allow you to choose your impedance ie 8 or 6Ohm for your speakers. When I brought in a set of Wharefedale Opus II's they were 6 Ohm so switched to that on amp. Now with my 684 S2's and soon arriving 683 S2's which are 8Ohm what happens if I switch my amp to 6Ohms?

Anyone care to elaborate without being too technical lol
