Hi all,

I recently bought a pair of Chario Syntar 516 bookshelf speakers via the classifieds section and, due to my own mishandling, the one grille frame has started to fall apart. The frame seems to be made from a low density fibre-board and, once the structure was damaged, it has started to crumble.

I approach Jan at Lowveld Audio and he was very responsive and contacted Chario (at the time, I was interested in getting a second pair of 516s) to find out availability of both another pair of 516s and a replacement set of grilles. The feedback from Chario was they had just discontinued the Syntar range and had no inventory of either complete speakers or spare grilles.

So I find myself in a position where I need to somehow make/construct a pair of replacement grille frames.

I need some advice and/or guidance on a few aspects: one, the material out of which to cut the frame; two, an effective fabric out of which to cut the grille cloth; three, how best to attach the cloth to the frame; four, how to fit the magnetic disks required to hold the assembled grilles in place.

For the frame, I want to avoid any low density composite boards (to avoid a repeat performance).

If anyone here on the forum has had any experience in this type of work, please share your experience with a self-confessed amateur... :)

Dave

PS: I will try, from the remaining intact grille, to knock together a drawing of the frame and then post it in this thread.
