Bought these from Amazon on black friday, delivered today (thank you UPS, I have waited longer for local purchases :faint
These have intrigued me for many years, never bought them tks to local pricing (which has since become more reasonable). Always read about them being bright and lean sounding.
Plugged em into the Phonitor and they sound full and have very good bass presence, not what I would call a bright headphone by any stretch of the imagination.
What has me floored is the amount of power these Headphones require...
With a stated impedance of 62 ohms these should not be outside the realms of portable listening, sure add a portable amp, but should be listenable without. What a load of *****, these things are power hungry dogs...
I have them at the same volume setting as my Beyer T1 to get about the same volume level
Now the sound quality is excellent, absolutely sublime, but the partnering kit you need to get them sounding this good is very expensive, way out of what their humble price suggests.
Why on earth have AKG target these for portable usage? The cable is also terminated in 3.5mm with an adapter, I have plugged these into my other headphone toys, and they lose so much of what makes them smooth sounding and enjoyable headphones. They then become thin and anemic. :moron: I gotta say I'm very happy with my purchase, but would not have been happy if I didnt have the Phonitor or an equally powerful beast to drive them.
