(AQ Forest) Lightning to USB cable not working for me

I'm being stupid, someone please help.

I just got my AudioQuest Forest Lightning to USB-A cable. Connected my iPhone 13 to my desktop Amp/DAC.
You guessed it, no sound, except from the Phone on-board speakers. Not even an "accessory not recognized" message from the Apple. I also tried using a much older iPad.
This purchase after reading loads of reviews of American audiophiles enjoying the sonic upgrades that resulted from their $50 purchase.
If I Google search along the lines of AudioQuest Forest Lightning to USB-A cable not working with iPhone 13, I find nothing.

Have I wasted money or is there hope?
Any input would be appreciated.
