Hi all
I have been lurking here for about a month, so I'm pretty new and I'm not very knowledgeable with regards to AVR's in general.
I currently have a Sony 6.2 system that I bought for real cheap several years ago, however the amplifier sucks. It doesn't have audio pass-through on HDMI, only video, so it is basically impossible to get proper surround audio to the amp. Also for information's sake, I currently have a 40" Sony FHD LCD TV.
I have been looking at getting a new AVR to replace the current one, but I'm not sure what to get. After some googling it became apparent that HDMI2.0 and HDCP2.2 will be a good thing to have going forward, however I don't know if this is really something I should bang my head against at the moment, or if I can just get something with HDMI1.4 and without HDCP2.2. I do like buying things that are "future-proof" however; I don't want to upgrade again in the near future. I also don't have a UHD TV at the moment, but I intend on getting one.
The ideal (if possible) would be to get a new AVR and keep the current Sony Speakers and Subs, however I'm not sure if the Subs can be driven by other AVR's. The Subs have their own amplifier, and the sub amp connects to the AVR with two cables. I haven't seen these ports on the back of other AVR's I have looked at.
During my googling, I found that something like the Onkyo TX-NR646 or the Denon X1200W suits the bill. From what I've read, both are very good AVR's.
So, should I get something with HDMI2.0 and HDCP2.2, or can I ignore that for now? Would my current speaker and sub setup work with another AVR? Should I only get something with HDCP2.2 but only HDMI1.4?
Appreciate all advice and help. I don't want to spend a lot of money and then end up with something I regret.
Ideally I don't want to spend more than R10k, however I can probably push it a little bit more if convinced otherwise. I hope all of this makes sense.
