Not sure if this should be here or in the DIY section. My KEF PSW2500 sub has started making a loud buzzing sound when the power is on. It does it regardless of whether it's connected to the amp or not. Looking on the web it seems that the KEF subs have a design flaw where they blow one of the capacitors. There are plenty of instructions out there as to how to fix it yourself. I'd rather do the work myself as I figure that I can buy a soldering iron and the capacitor for way less than the price of getting KEF to do the work and at the end I still have the soldering iron. I also like the idea of tinkering with my stuff, although have no experience in electrical repairs. So, three questions:
1. How easy is it to replace a capacitor? I've never used a soldering iron before but have watched others do it.
2. Should I even attempt this myself? Can I destroy my sub if I get it wrong?
3. Where can I buy capacitors in Joburg? I need either a 47uF 63V 85oC axial or a 47uF 100v 105oC radial capacitor.
