I took my kids for haircuts earlier and the hairdresser is opposite a Cash Converters store.

While they were getting sorted, I took a stroll across the walkway and went for a browse......and there she was !....a NAD 3020 Series 20 ...but...the salesman walked up to it and started plugging in a crappy CDP to demo to a family :'(...now I moved closer and showed interest  :whistler:...I overheard the customer enquire why the amp was so expensive compared to the CDP.. This is when I butted in and agreed with him and pointed out that you could buy a 1000 watt AKIRA AV receiver for the same price !

The customer decided to only take the crappy CDP and I immediately got my paws on the 3020 and wired it up to some brandless speakers and plugged in a CDP to test all the inputs.
Everything seemed to be fine, so I told the salesman I would take it if I could get a better price.

I now have a near mint 3020 to partner the one I already have.
My current one is in good condition, but this one is superb. The rear panel looks brand new and there are zero signs of corrosion.
Interestingly upon opening them up, I noticed that the output transistors are Motorola's whereas my other one has RCA's..their serial numbers are less than 1000 units apart.
Does this difference give them a slightly different sound signature ?...they both have the identical board layout with the 4 big caps on the front left .

So I'm glad to say that it has gone to a good home  ;D, but nearly ended up being partnered with rubbish and maybe died a horrible death!

I wonder how many hifi icons are collecting dust in homes or being abused and unappreciated because the owner has no idea what he actually has..

Just thought I would share my exciting ( for me anyway ) story.
It's a great feeling to unexpectedly find a gem while going for a boring haircut !
