Cat 5 length: Does it affect signal internet?

I have an odd problem. 

The problem involves connection between Wall - Modem - gadgets using CAT 5 cables.

Wall - 10 meter CAT 5 - wireless router - 1 meter CAT 5 - Gadget  = no internet connection
Wall - 1 meter CAT 5 - wireless router - 10 meter CAT 5 - Gadget =  Working internet connection

I replaced the CAT 5 with a new one and got the same results.

I tried this using two wireless routers (Belkin and  TP-Link) same results.

I am really puzzled at this, I thought these cables are good for 100 meters.
