CD player as a Transport?

Hi All,

Will the sound quality of cd players in my system be the same if I bypass their internal DAC to my external DAC? In theory, using a cd player as a transport should all sound like the external dac they are connected through...or am I missing something

I am happy with the cd player but aesthetically my non-matching components are becoming an eye sore & I would like to start replacing some components if I can retain the sound quality.
