Saw this thread on Audio Circle and I thought it might be a good Idea to have something like this on here.

I set my self a budget of R5,000 ($500) to see if I could put together something costing that that would deliver the goods so to speak.
Was even hopeful enough to include Vinyl play back and a valve amp within the budget.

Well I have achieved my goal and have put together a system that is very good indeed.  In fact I cant leave it alone.  All items second hand except the speakers which were new. I Used cables I had lying around

System:
Amplifier Aria Mini 6PI valve amp          .  R2000,00 
CD Player Enzer DVD player                .    R100 
QED Digit  DAC to go with Enzer.              R400
Record Player Akai DD2 with Excel Cart.    R750
Phono Stage Technics SUZ15 Amp            R500
(Connected up through the tape loop)
(This also allows me to switch sources as
the Aria has only one input)
Speakers Wharfedale Crystal CR-2-30's    R695
Tuner some unnamed thing - All band      R100
Cables worth if I flogged them about        R300
                                                ...  Total:  R4845,00

Does anybody else have something similar to share.
There are so many new guys starting out and this goes to show you need not spend a lot of money to have truly great sound.
