Clear burglar bars

Trying to get as much input as possible.

We currently have metal bars in our bedroom - but as my wife is expecting - we now have to extend this to the other bedrooms, however, I really do not want to go with metal bars, I hate the feeling of living in a cage.

Anyone have opinions on the clear bars, specifically the ones connected to the alarm system? 

I've been quoted just under R8k for three windows - two large (1.48x1.48m, 1.2mx0.95m, 0.86mx1.45m)
