Did you know that Philips invented the compact cassette format? (CD's as well) They asked two of their divisions to "invent" it. Two formats were proposed, but in the end, the Compact Cassette as we know it won. The second format was also brought to market via Grundig, but did not succeed.
Philips was instrumental with a lof of audio gear and apparently very influential in the past. They made some great speaker drivers as well.
