Cost of Cartridge in relation to cost of TurnTable

As some would say, you may look at spending a certain percentage of the cost of your equipment on Cables(for those who believe that cables do make a difference), is there some sort of a guide as to the value of a cartridge in relation to that of the Table? so as not to "waste" a cartridge or "underutilise" a table?
I know there are a huge number of variables involved.
