Not sure if this potential problem has appeared on the forum previously, it can be more prevalent on toroidal transformers which seem to becoming a bit more popular these days with the massive big amplifiers and the transformers almost the size of an Austin Mini tyre.

Depending on the severity of the DC content it can cause buzzing and heating of the transformer even without a load connected, The bigger the size of the transformer the more likely it will occur.

The DC content can come down through the power line input from outside sources as well as been generated within your own home and can last from seconds up to long periods.

Now the big question, has anyone on the forum picked differences in audio response when this problem has occurred,  and  not realised the cause, it be  by even using a hairdryer in the next room.

Any comments from the boffins out there?
