I couldn't sleep last night so I did what any normal person would do, I started reading audio articles to find a way to improve my sound.
This is where I came across decoupling or isolating the speaker. I was already going to build plinths for my speakers from a 30mm granite slab i have as they are too low (Dali Ikon 5's) but then I thought about adding a strip of rubber underneath and one on top to form an isolation mechanism.
I have laminate floors were my speakers are and then a big rug in front of them.
So it would be Rubber (or another suggested better material?) 30mm Granite square about the double size of speaker footprint and then another layer of rubber (or better?) material
So a few questions
1. Has anyone tried decoupling? if so did it work? the interwebs have claimed so pretty good results
2. If so how thick should I go for the rubber?
3. Would it be a good idea to add the spikes back if I use the rubber (basically coupling it to my decoupling stand
4. where could I get thick rubber or better material? Mica doesn't have
Any advice would be much appreciated.
