I would love to get my hands on tinkering but sanity previals and say it is better to buy a commercial speaker at R50K that trying to build something yourself as it is not only the parts but the time that you take to make a perfect speaker at home. I have tried and started but life always seems to get the better hand where you are split between making some $ to pay for your commitments and time with the family.
The advanatge of DIY is the joy of working with your hands and looking at the end result as a pure love affair. The problem though is that the resale value of DIY is rock bottom and your resale will result in a loss and parting with part of your 'soul'. I have a lot od respect with some of the builds here in SA and I think one of my acquisitions is really value for money and bang for your buck. I got it for a good price as it just seems no one is willing to risk on DIY.
This for example is a few months project that cost $5,000 and although it looks the part http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/NEXT4.htm
I may havve time one day and retire.
