Do I need a centre speaker?

Can someone, in complete layman's terms, explain to me what I need to be able to watch dvd's using my Denon 3802 and Kef Q5's?

I get really good stereo quality when listening to music, but when I watch movies the dialogue seems distant and is overpowered by soundtrack and ambient audio.

I don't have the money right now for a complete package of surrounds, centre and subwoofer (although I'll get these at some stage). Will the addition of just a centre speaker help my dialogue problem?
