I decided to try out my tiny Yamaha old home-theater sub with my stereo system just to add a bit of warmth to the bass. My preamp has two outputs for each channel. Because the sub only has one functioning RCA input, I used a cable that combined the left and right outputs from my preamp and connected it to the input on the sub. Listening to music resulted in my system seeming very flat and only after a while did I realize that all the sound was coming from the middle and that I had no stereo effect whatsoever even going into my power amp from the set of outputs from the pre-amp that was not connected to the sub. Once I disconnected the cable from the preamp to the sub [the one that was combining the left and right channels], the stereo image returned. Is this normal? Are the outputs on the preamp connected to each other?
Thanks!
