OK. Following my previous thread on getting a working DAC - Amp - Speakers solution, I'm now looking for a means to get the flac files into the DAC. I'm currently using a very old laptop over a wireless network, which isn't up to the job as far as streaming is concerned. So I'm now looking for something to stream music to the DAC.
My requirements are a hard drive - preferably built in so that there isn't too much stuff hanging around on cables, the ability to stream whatever I throw at it into the DAC (24/192 would be nice) via toslink or coax, a wireless connection so that I don't have more cables strung around the house and the ability to control the box with an Android device.
What I can see that fits this requirement is either one of the Mede8ers - 800x3d or 1000x3d - or one of the Dune HD players - TV-303D-AW or Base-3d. Either of these looks like they're up to the job, the Mede8er being quite a bit cheaper. Another option would be to spend a few hours and build a very basic small PC in a nice looking case - the candidate donor PC in the house is a full ATX machine in a functionally ugly case.
Is there anything I'm missing?
