I bought a Yamaha Z11 from a buddy. I paid the equivalent of R9000. Turns out the DSP board needs to be replaced at a cost of R8500, bringing the price to R17500 should I choose to repair it. The amp has setup mic and remote. There are some problems on some of the channels, and agents have tested and said the DSP board needs to be replaced. The following speaker channels all work: front height speakers, center speaker surround speakers. I put a 2 channel power amp on it, and I am running it as a 7.2 system (2 subs, front channels, center channel, front height channel; surround channels)
The unit can be used as a processor on it's own as the preouts all work, so do the HDMI boards
My options are:
Take it back to my friend for a refund
Keep the amp and have it repaired. He pays R2k towards the repairs, so i pay R7000 for the amp and R8500 for the new DSP board.
Keep the 2 channel power amp on it to drive the fronts and use the Z11 to drive the rest of the speakers
Sell as is for R7000 as a processor
The sound of the unit is excellent. The Z11 is a bit of a legend.
Any thoughts would be appreciated
