HDMI headaches - help please

Hi all

I have Yamaha MCR-750 Blu-ray player with Composite and HDMI outputs. Playing Blu-ray with HDMi connected plays with music - but no video.

I connected composite to old projector, and display works fine. Even in the Yamaha setup I can select any resolution for HDMI , ie 1080i, 1080p, 720p etc...Composite output paused, no HDMI...after 12 seconds it reverts to composite as I cannot select the OK to continue with HDMI.
Tried various HDMI cables, still nothing...connected HDMI to same projector, nothing, HDMI to my Samsung Full HD PC monitor, nothing....
Is there possibly a way to test HDMI with some other testing device or something?

I'm at point where petrol and vuurhoutjies seems to be good idea....
