Hi Guys,

I'm busy building a plinth for  a turntable and got some hardwood planks from a friend.
I've cut and sanded it and need to treat the wood with oil, but I'm having a bit of trouble identifying the type of wood.

This is what it looks like after sanding. When cutting / sanding the wood it has quite a strong smell to it (not unpleasant though)

Wrt to the staining / oiling of the wood - I don't want the wood to be glossy or too dark. Can you perhaps recommend a type of oil to try?

Thanks.
