My name is Francois..... I used to be a hoarder...collector... a what ever....
Years ago it was books, real paper ones.... there is some value in it, you can read it over again... After 1500 SciFi/Fantasy I stopped :sulky:
Then it was CD's - The Devils own website www.secondspin.com and exchange rate of R5/$ made me do it! I havent listened to half of the CD's.... now most sold.. Who in his right mind has 15 Rod Steward CD's and actually dont like him very much :nutter: I confess...
Then came DVD... O crap what a dissaster... BUT luckily that wasnt as bad, only about 500 DVD's... Bliksim when I sold them off, at least 30 were still sealed... AGAIN the devils website :EGrin:
Than came LP's! :help: After 3000 or so I realized most were CRAP ! :Ooooooh: What were I doing ? Im cured of this evil too! I will now only get very special ones AND I will NOT keep it in its box, I will listen my MFSL/Linn/Audioquest until they are unlistenable...
I DIDNT do the blue-ray thing!! Im saved :clap: I will however have Avatar, Avengers etc to enjoy again.... 10's NOT 100's

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT making slight, ridiculing or putting down OTHER peoples equipment, I will NEVER do that. This is MY experience, MY feelings, MY equipment
Then came the VINTAGE Hi-Fi equipment.... I prompty bought a BIG Pioneer, Small & Big Sansui, Valve Pioneer, Sony, Big Marantz... most mint and costly.... Oh they looked so nice :drool:
I listened to Valve Sansui, Marantz etc etc Sonab and Nad, Big vintage Marantz..... Sony, Yamaha, AR speakers.... Magnepan
Oh they all sounded good to ok.... really just good to ok... THE WORLD HAS MOVED ON! Except for a few really special amps out there (Leem for one) the vintage stuff are well.... vintage.... NO the big Sansui does not sound better than a Graaff GM20 or a BAT VK75! And some people ask R15k+... Thank goodness I dropped that deal... Try Atma Sphere here, brilliant !
The McIntosh 275..... another LEGEND.... Like Carl Lewis against Bolt..... the 275 is not a patch against a new Lamm, ARC VT etc.... Sorry but its true.... And the newer McIntosh amps are brilliant (This from my friend in AUS having played with these)
The newer Audio Research are MILES ahead of any old ARC, amps as well as pre-amps. Same with Krell! The KSA100 and brother maybe an exception here. Is the newer Krell better than mine, well YES, but I dont want to know and have not the $$$ to find out..... :BWAHAHAH: Want a No 33 Mark Levinson ? Try one of the newest ones, they are better and 300% smaller... The simple Xindac Valve amp sounds better than both the Dynaco 30 and 70 ?! What is happening here ?
Some spiralled down....The new Sansui's and Pioneers, Technics, Sony's sound much worse than the older ones :facepalm: The Elite Pioneer and Sony the exception...
Try the Marantz PM15 sold on this forum just now, R5500.... I challenge ANY old vintage amp to match that ! Without blowing up too! What an amp!
I watch the people all over collecting the vintage stuff, never playing them, stacking them in droves just to say "Look what I've got". My friend Alan Hobkirk has several really really special pieces, the rest he sold... Like Vusi said "Is any of this better or even close to the Krell ?" Well, No.... "So when are you ging to listen to it AND enjoy it ?" :thinking: So true
I will swap out speakers and listen to them for their strengths and experience and FUN, JOY, marvel in their ingenuity, design. They sound radically different, NICE!
An Amp, CD, recordplayer and preamp can approach perfect, speakers not, they always address 3-4 out of the 7 or so musical genre's . What fun.....
I was at Stephan and Microgram on two occasions....
I saw fairly descent people (so called collectors) become stupid animals when a collector dropped of 5 boxes of very good LP's!! I was taken aback by the greed, like pigs snorting, scratching through the boxes....pushing people around... WTF ? For an LP? Do you sell it ? Do you listen to it ? Why not ? Just so that one day you are too bloody old to use your ears OR the money you get for it ? Does it give you joy ? HOW ?

One day you die.... you cough out the last breath and guts... whisper to you relatives.... "Sell......." :BWAHAHAH:
What do you do with 8 turntables ? Only one is the best... simple... Alan sold me his Thorens 524 to Keep SP10... simple he says... Ill never listen to the Thorens... What a simple philosophy...
I love hearing peoples systems, their pride and joy, brought together with love for THEIR ears and tastes, and THAT is where the joy lives, thank God (with utmost respect) I finally get it :clap:
