I need to somehow make a little money on the side ... and I was thinking the least risky way is online - perhaps an online store specialising in something specific. First thought was something specialising in media centres and accessories, as they seem to be on the increase. So, possibly a single store selling each brand (Xtreamer, TViX, Mede8ter, AC Ryan, WD Live rtc) , Harmony range of remotes, MCE Remotes/IR, HP Servers and NAS/HDD.

The problem with this is that mark up is low - and getting through to people to help with anything before there IS a business or website is near impossible.

I've also thought about using what is available to me and as I work at an IT distributor anyway, I can get Fortinet products at a reasonable price through my company - but in order to buy from them, I'd need a business. The issue with this is Fortinet is more of an SME type device and not many individuals would go for it. However - it's still an option ...

I have two questions :

How difficult is it to open a sole trader?
Is there anything you can think of to specialise in?
