Anyone using iPod with a external DAC ?

I'm now using iPod + pure i20, line out through i20 built in DAC  (24-bit 192 KHz  -105 dB S/N, -93 dB THD+N and 2V RMS).
If the sound quality from iPod 3.5mm output is 5/10
then it's 6/10 through line out dock - RCA  ( but output is still much less than 2V which is not friendly to most of amplifiers)
when I upgrade to pure i20, it reach to 7.5/10 ( lots of detail, but bass a bit boomy which is good for pop music, but not good for classical music )

i20 have a great specification, but it doesn't produce excellent sound.  And this has proof again that good power supply & Analog circuit is more important than great specification when it come to sound quality. Don't get me wrong, for an iPod users, Pure i20 is still the cheapest way to get audiophile standard performance so far, it's really great for it's price, as it can reach the standard as some entry level CD player, but I need more than just entry level performance.

So........ I am thinking to add an external DAC to get the best out of my iPod.
Anyone have similar experience ? any suggestion & comments welcome.
