So those that know me understand that I'm a bit of a bargain hunter. I'm the guy that thinks that if you buy something worth R500 for R100, you've miraculously saved R400. The fact that the thing is totally unnecessary is an irrelevance.
So, I ended up with a whole bunch of speaker drivers I don't need.
I also had a crate, too small to bury my enemies in, but nice and sturdy, and 18mm ply and stuff.
So, I did some reading, sliced the crate up, routed a few holes (the more drivers the better), bolted the drivers that are available in (four of the bargain 12" from BrianJ). I couldn't resist hooking them up.
My findings.
- do a solid 30Hz and an audible 25Hz
- not as snappy as I thought the bass would be, but drivers are new and there are no mids. And there are too many holes.
- breaks up past 800-ish.
- Need to glue cabinet together. It rattles.
