I bought a ModWright LS100 valve pre last year off the forum and found that the HT bypass function wasn?t working. Although the seller offered cash back, I wasn?t letting this lovely pre-amp go.
Detective work revealed that neither of the previous 2 owners ever tried the HTBP feature, using it only in stereo.
Big up to Trishend and Vashan of SA agents Ricata for going the extra mile. They were more than helpful, and Dan Wright of ModWright even more so.
We established that there was a factory fault (Dan was embarrassed). He proposed I return the LS100 to him. I wasn?t keen so he sent a diagram for it to be altered (though he wasn?t that keen on the idea).
Long story short it has now, months later, left for the USA and Dan will replace everything except the metalwork under warranty (free). It?s a 2011 model. ModWright products carry a 5 year warranty, regardless of how many hands they?ve passed through it seems.
Only Oom Schalk comes to mind as someone who backs up his products to this extent.
