This week-end I purchased a Rega Planar 3, in promised 100% apparent working condition from Cape Town.
Once back home, the belt was slipping so much on the idler-wheel, that the platter hardly turns. When dropping the stylus, the added weight causes the platter to cease turning, as a direct result.
Still not sure if I've been conned, (willingly paid R300 more on the asking price) and thanks to some remote forum diagnostics, established that the belt just probably needs replacing.
Next step: where to get a replacement belt locally in CT?
According to the ex-owner, these were available not too long ago at R100 brand new, although somehow not convinced of his trustworthiness any longer.
