How can one not support local traders? After all they give you a free lollipop or Vienna sausage when you have your hair cut or your mum buys meat.Well in audio shops of yore they gave you a condescending tone and a curled lip or they destroy  your car's engine when you took it for a new set of windscreen wipers. On the manufacturing side quite a few local attempts at hi fi products appeared over the decades. Invariably the rudeness of the builders where only matched by their lack of knowledge, eagerness to "clone" successful designs and total ineptitude with a soldering iron.

But, But, But. Somewhere in the 90s things changed I have so often sung the praises of Schalk Havenga that people probably think he pays me. Now I have found the other one.: Over the years I have corresponded and followed Blue Angel cartridge builder Mafioso's antics with interest and often a smile. I heard and saw one of his creations in an unfamiliar  setup and was impressed but a Blue Angel cartridge stayed on my "to do"list.

Knowing  my love of things EMT Andre recently contacted me as he wanted to make an EMT headshell for a friend (that seems to be the kinda guy he is -note not a commercial venture, make money ,get ****y secretary buy Audi TT-just something for a friend)). Any way I send him a dilapidated shell as well as the most awfully abused cartridge you ever saw. It was an EMT i bought 20 years ago from Veector Song , used for 10 years until the maid destroyed it and chucked it in the rubbish bin. Somehow it landed in an empty fertiliser bag in the garage to be found last month(don't ask,my garage is  an embarrassment and not discussed)

Lo and behold ;Andre obviously saw this as a challenged-look what he has done!

I scratch my head and wonder ,how on earth can I still pay the premium for overseas goods when good people-our people are making these sort of things in garages?
