Air said:I want to start a thread in the general section to catalogue the forum member's memorable systems and listening sessions and strip it from all the analysis and hair splitting discussions that is going in circles.
Inspired by Stefan's (Air) post in Eldenes speeker thread i thought i would kickstart proceedings.
System 1: Front end (can't remember), Amp- Krell FFB something (me thinks) - Speekers - Sonus Faber Extremas
It was at the Sandton hi-fi show way back - i mean almost 20 years ago
I sat down in the room and they played Keith Jarrett, At the Deer Head Inn. At the time i was not into Jarrett (or Jazz for that matter) but holy mother of g*d - did this system nail it. Forget the audiphool dissection of the parts = the system just sang and communicated like no other i had heard - sheer musicality - i just got last in the performance - awash in musical bliss - riveted to the chair i was (the force was strong Luke) - and so the love affair with KJ (the bestest ever pianist IMO) was ignited. Like a drug addict's first hit - this was a cherry high moment
System 2: Front end Continuum/DCS, Amp- Halcro - Speekers - Vivid G1
This session was at the SABC recording studios to introduce the G1s. The space was huge and the G1s spaced wide apart - but they were non-plussed
I was not playing in this league but i got there early and secured my seat in the sweet spot - i still recall Robert Trunz ribbing me about stealing the bestest seat - but hell i was there to experience it and i wanted the best seat in da house - anything off-axis was not gonna cut it
Dickie did his spiel and then the music was on - i was transfixed - this was as good as it gets - Phillip graciously played some of my own music for me even though Vivid was way outta my league - and oh my - this was heaven - i just got lost - marvelling in what was before me - i still have not heard a hifi system do what IT did that day - on my drive home i vowed that when i grew up what i would own Vivids one day
ps Stefan is like THE nicest guy in audio.
