A while ago I was part of a music listening competition where they have used two different qualities of music ripping.
The one was low quality MP3 and the other was FLAC
How it worked was that they will play 5 songs, but each song gets played twice due to the different qualities.
Then you had to choose which one is the best.
The first round he had chosen a few that went to the final round.
This setup they used floorstanders with a singe sub (Exact models cannot remember).
Both of these I did not do bad. 1st round 4/5 and the lest round 3/5
The last round was a bit tricky due that two songs was celtic music.
It was difficult for most who was there to pickup up the difference.
The second setup they used B&W 686 and two SVS Subs.
If you have not tested yourself with the different ripping qualities, then you loose a lot.
What I mean with the above note, I was not fully aware that it has quite an impact on your listening experience, you loose quite a bit of music notes etc.
What was your experience in such a test?
