okay .... i managed to sell my laptop and my samsung P2770H monitor and in their place i landed up getting myself one of these
which is the Samsung UE40H6030 3D LED tv which i am using as a 3D TV (no surprise there) in the bedroom as well as a PC monitor ..... many will feel that its too big as a PC monitor but it isnt - i am getting used to it and it definitely works perfectly well if you are used to a largish monitor
it comes with two of these 3D glasses
and it works incredibly well with the 3D version of Avatar which is the only 3D blu-ray i have for now - the SBS (side by side) MKV rip also works terrifically well and in some bits even works better than the actual blu-ray while being played in VLC player (it was ripped with DVDfab's 3D blu-ray ripper which is another program that works as intended ie it rips to 3D mkv with HD audio as well as other audio streams intact)
the latest incarnations of 3D are actually well worth the effort - the newer glasses are lighter and slimmer and do not flicker as much (actually no flicker at all compared to stuff i have seen in the past) and there are some scenes where the background stretches behind for miles and some bits where the stuff really jumps out the screen toward you .... as an example in Avatar 3D when Jake wakes up after the tree village was destroyed and ash from the fire is enveloping him you feel as if its actually falling onto your lap as you watch it and expect to be burnt by the small embers - and this is still with the protective film not removed from the glasses - im going to look online to see if and how those protective films need to be removed
EDIT : actually they are intended to be removed and the 3D looks even better when they are removed - i feel foolish that i actually left them on and was scared to remove those - i am now converted from a sceptic to a fan of 3D BUT with one caveat - the movie needs to be a "made for 3D" like Avatar cos i have seen some pretty crappy gimmicky movies which i wont bother getting eg green hornet in 3D was pretty poor as a 3D experience so not worth buying but it was converted and not made for 3D
the TV also works as well as the P2770 as a monitor just a fair bit bigger but that is something you get used to and as i said once it is wall mounted it will land up a fair distance further away from me than it is now - i will post pictures of this and the modifications i am going to make to my PC chair to accommodate the keyboard and mouse which wont be on a PC stand anymore
