So since I got my Predator I've had an issue with a very forward shouty sound, more to do with volume settings than the actual sound signature of the amp, by the third dot on the Predator volume it was almost at full tilt so I had very little in between either very soft or very loud and nothing in the middle.. Then I was reading up on Dacs as I want to get an R2R Dac sometime, in my reading I found that a lot of people spoke of the Nad been to hot when set to 0db on the Nad volume, a lot of people spoke of -4db, -6db, -10db and even up to -22db before they found the sound was right. Then I went through Stereophiles In depth review and found that -10db had the best measurements regarding the signal vs noise ratio.
So last night I tried it out and to my ears it sounds very different, not sure how to put it, just smoother and no shoutiness, it just sounded more balanced..
Why is this so, Placebo or is there something more to it? How can adjusting the volume actually change the sound a bit, and wouldn't 0db be the correct setting I mean how must the consumer figure out -10db is the best setting when logic tells me 0db should be right... Confused and Happy :Ooooooh:  :sulky:
