In my search for a used family car, I have come across numerous dealers with vehicles that I am interested in.

Before even calling, a quick search on Google maps provides a very basic idea of the quality of the dealership. Unfortunately, far too often the reviews are less than stellar. I would expect some bad reviews for any dealer, however, when the number of terrible reviews, all reiterating the same thing, outweighs the positive ratings, I find it concerning.

For those that show promise, I then call to ask some basic questions. This leads to further problems. Unreturned phone calls with answers to the most basic of questions, or just plain unfriendly salesmen.

The few that I have got to the point of visiting and taking cars for test drives, have then disappointed with their pushy sales tactics (telling me the car I'm looking at, which has been in their lot for 4 months, now has another very interested buyer) or has tried to brush off my observations about obvious faults with the vehicle. Please don't try tell me the vehicle hasn't had any panel beating done to it when I can see the overspray in the wheel arch!

I'm getting to the point where I feel I need to shop for a good dealer rather than a good car.

Any advice for finding reputable dealers or any recommendations for car dealers in the Cape?

Regards,
Trashy
