Hi

Just a quick introduction: my name is Alvin from Cape Town and I plead guilty to neglecting my life-long interest in music and stereo somewhat, in favour of family interests and the pursuit of my other passion (I collect vintage Seiko watches and I am a long-standing member of the Seiko and Citizen watch Forum - SCWF).

Most of my kit is aged 15 years or older.

However, I recently "inherited" my dad's old Dual 1019 TT, and the fond childhood memories it brought about gave me the sorely needed kick in the but to revive my interest. The Dual has been duly serviced and had its tone arm wiring redone - everything works, it sounds beautiful (especially bass) and has an Ortofon cartridge and Stylus.

One question of the experts if I may? The Dual still has a faint hum that can be heard between cuts, even though the earth connections have been double-checked. My aged Onkyo AV Amp has phono inputs and a ground conection. The pro that serviced it, looks at me in disbelief when I tell him this.... what could be the cause of it, and is there a fix that can be suggested?

Regards
