Didn't want to derail the previous topic on AVR's so thought I'd start a new one. My experience has been that movies sound best in rooms with lots of damping (carpets etc.) while stereo is better with a livelier room. I've tried to run both in the same room and gave up; not sure if it was the room or my AVR that sounded lousy but am much happier now with my stereo setup in a separate room with less soft finishes. I also once tried to have my home theater setup in a room with hard tiles on the floor etc. and it was terrible.
