My tenant in Plumstead vacated her house at the end of May. She filled in a form at the P O to have mail redirected to her new address in Kimberley. Despite this, 3 or 4 mail items get deposited in the old box every day. I write on the new address and repost them. I also went along to Plumstead P O to find out why this mail was not being redirected. They refused even to look it up as I was not the person who requested it and said she must come in personally. When I mentioned that she now lived in Kimberley, the lady just looked past me and said "next please" to the person in the queue. Such good manners indeed
Today the tenant calls me from Kimberley. Their PO notified her that they have a batch of redirected mail for her and she must pay R 316.80 for the 96 items that have been redirected at R 3,30 each one, since this service is no longer free. It seems that they kept the mail for 3 months prior to notifying her
So now I open her mail, scan it and email it to her. 80% is advertising anyway and that gets binned
I complained to the PostMaster (actually a Postmistress) at Plumstead about the poor attitude of her staff and unhelpful conduct, but she was not interested. She maintained that forwarding mail is free for 90 days, and when asked about this fee, says it has nothing to do with her
