My folks are in one of those retirement villages, the front and back doors have a standard-looking lock on the outside that requires a key to open and close. On the inside, though, you don't need the key - it's a type of rotating latch that you use instead.

Fine under normal circumstances, but my Dad has senile dementia which has its good and bad moments, and every now and then he gets confused to decides to outside wandering without my Mom noticing. So especially in case he does one of these walk-abouts at night, I want to change the lock to a one that can lock on the inside, as usual, with a key - so that she can lock the doors at night and keep it with her so that he can't let himself out.

Are these locks a standard size - ie, can I go get a 'normal' type locking mechanism from say Builders and put it in, instead?
